James Joyce. One of my favorite

James Joyce, not the writer and poet :-) but the London-based artist and illustrator James Joyce, is one of my favorite artists. I love the his simple, bold and colourful prints, the graphic shapes and hand drawn elements in his work. He has a keen eye for typework, color choices and clever concepts. No wonder he is working with big clients, such as Wallpaper, Nike and Penguin Books.

In the 1st week of July VJ went to Bread & Butter Barcelona (BBB), the tradeshow for selected brands. It was our first time at the BBB (but definitely not the last) and the tradeshow was amazing!, with many cool exhibitors like Upper Playground, Artoyz, DreamTeam clothing from Germany and many many more. The BBB is held twice a year, a "winter" BBB in January and a "summer" BBB in July.

This is a very collectable and limited edition magazine (only 1000 copies are produced) comes out of Los Angeles and features collaborations with visual artists.

What makes Arkitip so unique is that contributing artists create work that is specific to each issue of the publication, rather than just reproducing images of their existing artworks. Each issue is like an original piece of art in and of itself.

I'm happy to announce that Topo and 123Klan Teddy Troops will be available this fall in my store.

Tope is from the Argentinian design house DGPH, standing 5" tall, is the first in a series of DGPH figures that will be releasing over this Fall.

And the 123Klan Teddy Troops where 123Klan has teamed up with Adfunture to create this magnificent 10″ Teddy Troop! Designed by Scien and Klor of 123Klan these are set to be released in November.

Happy collecting - They are both Limited editions and super cool :-)

Do you like to play cards? you should try Döner Berlin Quartett ;-)

Berlin is the birthplace of the “Döner Kebab”, which consists of a traditional Turkish meat specialty that is served in a bread pocket geared for more Western tastes and convenience. Döners are sold on almost every street and Berliners purportedly spend more money on them than they do at McDonalds and Burger King combined. Now, dgv is pleased to announce the first card game that features the local restaurants and stands that sell this delicacy.

Known in the UK as “Trumps” or “Happy Families” and in the US as “Authors”, this game features 32 cards from which players must collect sets of four cards of the same rank. Categories are the price of the Döner Kebab, the year the restaurant/stand was founded, its opening hours, its distance to the center of Instanbul, the number of brothers the owner has, its number of chairs and the number of bowls in the counter. As opposed to other designer or novelty card games, this one is made to be played!

Motomichi Nakamura's Chaz and Daz

Chaz & Daz

Japanese animator and toy designer Motomichi Nakamura with his very first vinyl toy, Chaz & Daz, produced in collaboration with Android8. Motomichi's Chaz & Daz vinyl set comprises both figures (limited to a run of only 2000 worldwide) standing 4.5 and 6 inches tall, packed in a very cool Chaz & Daz styled box.

Motomichi Nakamura was born in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York he moved to Ecuador where he started working as an artist. He returned to the U.S. in 2000 and currently lives and works in Brooklyn.

His digital animation work has been exhibited at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in NYC and has appeared in the Sundance and the Onedotzero film festivals. He has performed his live video/animation mix at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and at other recognized venues in the U.S. and Europe. Recent collaboration work includes music videos with Swedish band The Knife and with Otto von Schirach.

In May this year he had a workshop in Oslo, Norway at The Oslo National Academy of the Arts. See more here
